Why Marooné ?

Long before the Marooné Collection existed, there were people who refused to live in chains.

Across the Caribbean, South America, and parts of Central America, enslaved Africans escaped plantations and fled into remote regions, mountains, dense forests, and swamps. These people became known as the Maroons.

They were not just fugitives.

They were builders of freedom.

In places like Jamaica, Suriname, Brazil, and Cuba, the Maroons created independent, self-governing communities hidden deep within nature beyond the reach of colonial control.

They grew their own food.

They built their own homes.

They protected one another.

They created new societies rooted in survival, courage, and self-determination.
Many of these communities lasted for generations and even fought wars against colonial powers to defend their freedom.
The Maroons understood something powerful, Freedom is not given. It is built.
Using knowledge carried from their African roots, they adapted to new lands and formed strong systems of protection, trade, and culture. Some Maroon communities still exist today. Jamaica remains one of the most recognized examples.
